We are told when we are young when we make mistakes so we can hopefully learn from them and not repeat them. We are also told about the events that have happened throughout history so we can also learn from them. Yet here we are in the 21st century, in the year of 2020, where it now seems we have rewound and are replaying events that have happened previously.
In the past eight months we have endured wildfires, a viral pandemic, mass shootings and racism flooding our streets. Add to this the fact that climate change has been a topic of conversation since the 1960’s and is still being ignored, and we are in a whole heap of trouble!
Why is it that these events keep occurring? Is it because of the egos of man and the greed and selfishness that comes from that? Is it naivety? I hardly doubt it, but we can all certainly turn a blind eye on the truth. Or is it just because its something that just happens? I personally have picked one of these options I feel represents this situation the most: Ego’s, Greed and Selfishness, followed closely by: Turning a blind eye to the truth.
Now I am not trying to be negative because I can actually see light in everything that has happened. These events that have occurred are hard to justify, horrible to think about and can be extremely debilitating, confronting and sad, however it is also stirring up the world, stirring up the hearts of many, and making our world leaders stand up and listen. As we come together to fight for righteous causes, freedom for the oppressed, equality and future sustainability, we are fighting for the Earth and ALL of its inhabitants. Joining together in unity for what we are losing, what we have lost and what we love and are all connected to.
In moving forward from today we have to make some difficult choices to make sure these events are not repeated again. We need to recognize that each action has a reaction and it’s time to make CONSCIOUS decisions on what we do in our daily lives, what we do in our communities, what we do nationally and what we do globally. And it’s time to recognize that your mindset, your lifestyle, your CHOICES are always going to affect someone or something else, so ultimately it all starts with YOU!
Personally, this year I choose to uplift others, to respect all life on earth and align with people who will do the same. I choose to stand up for others for the right reasons, consume food, media and products that are beneficial for my brain, health, well-being, and the health of the planet, and I choose to be inclusive and share love.
The time is NOW to not justify our selfish actions but base our actions around what is right, respectful and kind. Our choices are our own to make but let’s not continue to Rewind, Replay, Repeat! What are you going to do differently?
