Imperfectly Zero Waste

We live in a world where we can always do better and be better. For some of us, that can be either very demotivating, or we get really inspired from it. If you are either of those people that is perfectly fine, great even, and right now I even want to express my gratitude for taking the first step by reading this blog and, maybe even becoming that second person in trying to help us create a better world!

The subject of today’s blog is something that we can all work on so that we can leave less of a negative mark on this beautiful world, and one that helps reduce our own plastic waste at home, at work, at school, and wherever, whenever possible.

Why should we reduce our waste?

Well, we humans are producing and dumping more waste than ever before, in fact we are actually dumping 2.12 BILLION TONNES of waste annually. Which means that we need a Second Earth to dump our rubbish on.

Why should we go Zero Waste?

Well firstly, I’m not asking you to go perfectly zero waste free, what I am suggesting is that if we all went imperfectly zero waste, we would do the world a massive favor! And what’s even better is that we would save money, time and energy!

How you ask?

Well, you know those organic, smooth, barista made coffees you love, from that coffee shop that gives the best service? And you know how you probably pay upwards of $4.50+ for each cup weekly, or if you are a bit of a coffee snob, maybe even twice daily? Well my friend, here is one easy hack that almost every self-proclaimed coffee snob should know about – Take in your own reusable cup – and you would usually get a nice wee discount, saving you a few dollars a week and even hundreds of dollars per year!

On that note also, you will be reducing so much waste every year, just by having your own reusable cup.

Now I know I am just chucking out information that has been written thousands of times, but sometimes we must repeat it for the people in the back who aren’t listening.

There are also countless other-ways to reduce your overall waste, so here are some quick tips, but I’ll write some more blogs in greater detail.

1. Shop at a bulk food, zero waste store, where nothing comes in packaging! Take in your own jars for even more discounts!

2. Dine in! Sitting at a restaurant ultimately means you are taking away the need for packaging! If you know you’re going to need a doggy bag after, take your own container, just hide it in your bag! You got this!

3. Start buying products for your home that will last a lifetime, rather than for single use or just the week or month. Items such as safety razors, beeswax wraps, etc, things that eliminate the need to use glad wrap, plastic disposable razors, etc. This list goes on, so research it, and save some mula!

4. Invest in a Kangen Water Machine! These Bad boys do EVERYTHING. The initial expense is hefty, but if you use this bad boy for all means necessary, you will save thousands of dollars over your lifetime! It can produce water that is a medical grade sanitizer and disinfectant, it can also produce water that can condition your hair, tone your face, cleanse your face properly without harmful chemicals, and give you great gut health! It can literally do so much which takes out the need to buy so many household items. (Subscribe and leave us a message if you want to know more)

5. Start buying from your markets and then take that insta pic with your beautiful basket and your fresh produce. Buy those cute secondhand clothes, and maybe even grab a tasty treat. You will be saving money, supporting local farmers and small business owners, and enjoying a nice morning out, while being possibly surrounded by all the cutest pups! Only good things come from a farmers market!

So those are just a few tips on starting your journey into the zero-waste movement. You could save more money, do less trips to that dang bin, and help our beautiful world at the same time. Our earth and all living things are suffering from what we humans have done with our waste, so let’s stand together and make a difference, one piece of waste at a time! Let’s try and aim for a zero-waste life, you got this kid, and if you think it’s too hard, I promise it’s even easier than you could imagine.

Lots of love, your girl

Samara Jae
